Explore Boynton Beach

Most people think that in Palm Beach County you need to travel into the western part of the county for ecological experiences. That’s why the discovery of Mangrove Park is such a surprise. This hidden treasure near the intersection of Boynton Beach Blvd and Federal Highway is right behind Promenade Boynton Beach condos. Mangrove Park is a 12-acre natural area that borders the Intracoastal Waterway. What makes it great—especially for families with young children—is the elevated aluminum boardwalk that leads you through the mangrove hammock to the edge of the Intracoastal.

Amazingly, since it’s close to Boynton Beach condos, you feel like you’re completely surrounded by Old Florida when you’re here. This passive park features interpretive panels that guide you through the natural habitat. You’ll learn about native trees and animals. Benches for resting, a water fountain, bike racks and restrooms are nice touches that make the natural experience more comfortable.

The park is connected to at least three tidal inlets at its western border. The tidal inlets reveal wonderful aquatic wildlife. At low tide, you’ll see crabs and banana spiders, but often at high tide there are a terrific variety of waterfowl, raccoons and other wildlife. Manatees have been known to frequent the area. To ensure the safety of the manatees, there are "no fishing" signs posted and a bin to recycle any monofilament, as it is quite dangerous to these slow moving creatures.

In you live in one of the many Boynton Beach condos near the Intracoastal, consider this for a neighborhood walk. Open sunrise to sunset, the Mangrove Park is located to the east of St. Mark’s Catholic Church and School, at the dead end of Northeast Fourth Street in Boynton Beach.
